Iran supplies Weapons to Russia ....

Shock, Horror !

And it's killing people .. Bad news.

But the world can't condemn Iran for wanting a few $ out of it , IMHO

It's up to the world to decide what to do about it. ... Embargo, yes, maybe . More sanctions, yes, fine. The list can go on, and on.

The root cause, however is Russia ,and that should be the main attack point.

The root cause is that Russia has weapons it can't use. Russia designed and manufactured them , and cant use its stuff effectively . SURELY this should be advertised and publicised , and wean the world off buying its {shoddy/unusable} goods . As one of the world'smajor arms providers, destroying one of its main earners would be a great idea. And the world would know it was true ........

An Uppercut to Russia ?

This is simple and yet so devastating in every sense.

Supply Ukraine with £50m say, and but Iranian drones. Iran is a friend of Russia, but if it wont supply them commercially, then a small escalation is likely- stopping Iran trade with Russia . It won't happen though.

When Ukraine gets drones, then it would be at liberty to bomb Russia itself. It might bring the war to more Russian civilians , when power supplies etc are cut ? That sort of show of strength might even get the neo nazi talking to Ukraine .... ?

Crimea not attached to Russia ?

Well not any more. Russia is saying they'll repair it ready to donate to Ukraine later ..

They ain't happy. I reckon they're so pissed about it, they might even invade Ukraine , or send missiles into residential areas .....

Happy Birthday Vlaad

Have a good one my friend. Don't forget most people retire in their 60's . 70 is  a good age to learn to ride a horse [ or any other pastime not involving death] better .

Advice for how Putin can win easily

Well, its simple really. Following the successful annexation of most of Ukraine by Russian votes, it's time to move on .

A logical progression would be for a postal ballot of major EU capitals for incorporation into the Russian state. Sorted and Russia wins .......

A rebuttal defence would be for Ukraine to hold a referendum ,using UN observers to check on the validity of the Russian vote earlier , especially in areas where Russia has given up . Fight Russian insanity with.... sanity ..... and treat Russian statements as true where its easy to show falsehoods ?

So what have they been hiding about global warming ?

The honest answer is : quite a lot !

This is mainly becuase they dont know as its new territory. I have been trawling through literature and cant find anything quantifiable .

So whats in the media ? Primarily that weather will become more extreme , how much- they dont say .

The major thing they don't say [ that I have found, anyway] is that there is a time lag in temperature rise so even if we stop CO2 emissions now, it will keep worsening till it reaches equilibrium .

How to interpret that time lag for the common person then , 'cos that's what we wanna know . I personally dont really want to know if polar bears become extinct........ if i have the choice of knowing if I myself, am going to be extinct/flooded/burnt out/famished/hydrothermed/whatever.

There are 2 things happening with global warming.

1. Ice coverings on earth are disappearing

2. Weather is changing

The first should take decades or centuries to be complete. Once done, the sea level will have risen around 100m . Hope your great grandkids like water ! Anyhow, a bit far into the future and we will have sorted stuff by then hopefully as the more pressing aspect will affect this

The second is to know what's happening in the nearer future. My feeling is because of this time lag, stuff is going to get worse, so I think it's fair to assume that what happens now as a freak, is to expect that annually . I realise this isn't scientific and very much a straw guess, but its something to work with

In addition as it gross weather patterns become more frequent , areas of earth will become uninhabitable as people  realise what's happening. if you think thats far fetched then consider the fires in California and their frequency/ferocity as one example, there are many others.

So what can we do ?

Try to get politicians to take it more seriously than now . Unfortunately they all want whats best for their country... NOW and sod the 'then' part .

Dont we, as a species, need to grow up, and get countries to work to a common good? Yes,it would mean creating a world government, but is it possible.

I really hope it is, as I cant see any other solution ....

There are other ways of cutting government expenditures ?

Well, For some reasons, time seems to go in one direction only .....

But this is frankly ridiculous . When you get to pensionable age, you need to opt IN to get your pension, or you don't get it [ the longer you leave it before starting, the more you can draw, but I guess HMG will gain financially ] .

Surely it should be automatic , with an option to leave it if you wanted ???? This one strikes me as sick

BBC website slowly getting into trouble ?

Well, not quite. Below is todays front page as an example, however.

The top of the page [white banner] shows help in navigating the site [for those who dont use the site].

Underneath it are the main news subjects , with broad topics, like business, science etc. Plus important topical stuff that changes often to help you keep up to date.

These usually have about 1 topical subject in total . I just happened to look today and they are building up!

Fully half of the groupings are of topical stuff . It's starting to look like my to-do list, its growing unwieldy . The BBC is a wonderful company , and doesn't need this. Calling all world leaders . Sort it PLEASE !!!1

Nuclear Power . Russia knows best

Well, One must believe Russia that Ukraine is shelling its own power plants.

Advantage : any direct and destructive hit would kill more Russians eventually .

: if the wind is in the correct direction, radioactive fallout could end up in Russia [ bypassing the HIMAR US restrictions on hitting Russia directly.

: Ukraine knows that Russia will keeps it liberated lands, so its best to make them uninhabitable for a few 1000 years.

You just have to have faith in the Russian news and a slight scepticism against other nations' media

A question on retirement

How much money is too much ?????

A simple question you might think, its more than you need ......

I used to live , basically as I think most people live their lives , you work and play, and generally try to save the readies to be sorted for your retirement, if  you can anyway .

I was surprised when my partner asked me , why do you need more , and got me thinking . At age 20, its to earn as much as possible to save for retirement. Later its to stash enough for retirement . Finally, its to splash out on the kids afterwards [ and whoever else you might want]  . Is that the full story ?

Simples, and hope most people agree. Before she said that though, I was in a mild continual panic as to what retirement was going tobe like financially . Afterwards , having convinced myself we would be ok , I surprised myself as to how calm I'd become , we dont need to bequeath anything really so at the end the remainer should be broke . It was overamazing , but didnt think too much apart from that. Then Ukraine happened , and suddenly the nest egg shrank . Panic again .

Which started me thinking. Why, the overreaction? It's a bit obvious, running out of dosh isn't the best situation to be in, but even with that, we still had enough , but my emotions were extreme and got me thinking that the emotions might be genetic . If so, how would that affect society ? and does it gel with reality ?

Mankind seems to have a thing for getting as much as you can , not just enough, but as much . I was reading about some guys who had billions. WHY ? Some guys who have billions, then retire and spend lots on good causes . Those who have billions, then spend it on going to mars and so on, and so forth. US has a tradition of guys retiring then spending it on good causes - they really earnt the title 'robber barons' though in their heyday , so maybe they weren't good to start with ?

Overall though, most people do whatever they can to get wealth . What would happen with education and a set minimum amount of wealth ? maybe the world would be a better place ?

Energy Savings

Well , with the cost of energy rising so much in the UK, what can we do to heat and eat ?

I'm no expert, but here's what I'm doing to help myself . Any comments or other tips greatly appreciated!

There's never one magic bullet [ almost anyway], so these add up .

1. Travel . I now mostly travel by pushbike for distances of less than about 5 miles [ for me thats my nearest sizeable town] . I have a rucksack and backrack to help carry . For a big shop, then I treat myself to using the car . I go to exercise classes in the town, and gaining some street cred when any fellow classees see me coming into the car park .... For windy days, I will be using my ebike . I cant get rid of the car as I do travel further sometimes .

2. Bathing . Exercise classes now finish off with a shower sometimes [at the leisure centre]. I used to luxuriate by a shower followed by a bubble bath 3.5x/week . Now its once per week along with a quick shower if required + the gym...

3. Washing. Cold water- fast  .

4. Laundry. Now putting washing on every 6 days rather than 5, and filling up the machine slightly more. I'm helping to compensate by wearing thinner tops than normal [ T-shirts primarily] , and bedsheets staying on a couple of days longer . I use an electronic calendar to keep track of whats needed doing . Later in the year ,I'll be washing jumpers much less frequently , at present I only wear them at night

5. Smart lights . Removed

6. Standby kit- stuff with remotes Turning off at the machine--- when I remember to do it

7. Lights . Turning off when leaving room. Im getting better at this ! I have a battery operated proximity light in the bedroom, Im finding using this useful as it gives time to turn on the bedside lamp rather than the main lights .

8. Thermostat . Everyone says to turn it down by 1C . Ive not had the boiler on for central heating since about April, and relied on a thick jumper so far. Come autumn, I'll most likely do so .

9. Chimneys and the like . Make sure you know about ventilation prior to doing this- gas appliances need to be able to vent to the outside and can be dangerous if the off gasses cant escape . I have a fitted gas fire which I never use. The chimney now sports an old shirt blocking [warmer] air going up the stack .

10. Double glazing. Yeah think every house has that nowadays. I moved my finger round the inside edges of my windows a few months ago and was shocked to feel a draught. Screwfix visit, £12 of kit and resealed , rather than £1000s fitting new windows . Looks much better too :)

11. Cooking . Has never been my strong point.  I took a blood test [ results a fortnight ago as it happens] which said I was eating too many processed foods . fair enough as I was [3/week ready meals]. I already had a slow cooker, now I'm using it most of the time, and can get 8 meals cooked in 1 go [ aint a freezer wonderful!?] Labelled packs for variety so now eating only 'fresh' produce and no junk .

12 Bedclothes . Well my duvet is rather luxurious , but if it does get cold over winter , there are easy ways to rectify that problem .

13. Insulation . I had my walls insulated courtesy of HMG a couple of years ago . FREE . Check whether you can get freebies ..... They wouldnt insulate my loft properly , however , but beggars cant be choosers .....

14. Renewable installation. I'm moving home soon, so I'd never get my money back from this personally in my present gaffe . If  you're planning to stay in your home for a few years however, you might want to think about this and do the sums . I will be in autumn, the price of energy will make the payback in a few years only [ my guess is 4 at the current fuel price, and its a hedge against future hikes of course] .

Global Warming and Trump

Well , its getting closer to the time when Trump is likely to get more in the news. The good news is if he gets back into the Whitehouse through the door rather than via a riot, he will sort out global warming quickly.

Easy- if he says it doesn't exist , it can't . Ukraine, even easier- just stop sending weapons. The world will breathe [ actually not easier cos of the heatwaves/hurricanes/wildfires and the like] , but ... well, hopefully it will continue breathing ...

Politically Fuel prices Will hit the Government -UK/world?

Yeah , OK , the world knows fuel prices have risen a little this year .... and that governments throughout the world have been cajoled into helping out its citizens .

What isnt publicised however, is that when the fuel price increases, the government tax take also rises  , as its normally fixed as a % .

So the government is profiting from our misery ......

So what should we do ? Well, its in the govs' hands, just cap the take as a temporary measure. It wont be a huge amount , but will make it fairer ......

Time to sort out exam grades

I think Ive ranted over this before . Below is a copy of a letter sent to my local MP

Keith Darley
 The Limes
Buckland
Herts

14/9/12

   Dear Mr Heald ,
Every year I hear about the school examination results and inwardly groan . As you are aware normally it is about the ever increasing number of passes/grades , though this year was the opposite...

Isnt it time that this problem was sorted once and for all ?

Firstly , The reasons for the grades is so other people can assess the test candidate's ability for emplyment/study/other purposes .
Secondly , the system has to be flexible, fair and subject to comparison with older/younger people
Thirdly , the system preferably should be sufficiently robust that it can withstand political interference .

My suggestion is simplicity itself :
The grading system in place is too easy to pass , with employers/Universities stating that they cant differentiate between individuals.

So , to address this [ and other problems with changeovers] , make everyone get a pass mark , ie no fails .
The grading system can then be as follows :
Lets say Joe BLoggs came in the top 60% of marks . Give him a pass of 60, probabaly with a letter before so P60 grade . Others can be graded similarily .

Obviously there can be 100 pass grades , but thats possibly too sensitive [ but easily done] so maybe 70, 60 50, 45, 40 ...... 90, 92, 94 .... or whatever .

These are now independent of the exam as they are purely comparative and as such can compare individuals who have taken different exams . They cannot be bodged/adjusted to a government's whim.

Two problems would need sorting . Firstly course work is down to a school and is open to interpretation locally . If course work were still deemed to be required , maybe have a grade of A,B,c,d,e for the school coursework and then the national % , so a pass of B55 would cater for that .
Secondly courses without exams may have to have 2 letters to show that an exam wasnt used to assess that persons' grades so maybe a  grade of BB without a number .

Summary :
Make marking of exams fair and transparent , allowing comparison between different ages easy for prospective employers , in a system that is unlikely to be corrupted by future politicians and is seen to be totally fair by all members of the public

Do you think this would work ?
Yours sincerely
Keith Darley

professor works it out

This morning , Pluto worked out that all the food that has ever been eaten by the Boss , has hardly ever reappeared , and so it must still be down the throat .
Ergo : wait till a yawn starts and frech kiss for breakfast . As it didnt work -- the tongue cant be long enough ....

hamleys the gentleman's toy shop

For anyone who doesn't know the store - this is probably the best toy shop in the world , situated in Central London. For those that do , read on
Hamleys issues discount codes for staff, corporate and a few other things.Someone got hold of 3 of these codes , each entitling to 20% discount on purchases.
These guys then input all 3 codes to receive 60% off their [xmas?] goodies. Fair dos.
so said Hamleys which agreed that it would honour those sales. [ they stated that it was a gaff in the coding]
Lovely, in the Chrismas spirit and cerainly with the famous stiff upper lip and all that :)
Shortly thereafter , it then announced that the sales would not be honoured as it contravened the ters and conditions of those sales.
Hmmm, so initially it agreed to be a gentleman, then found out it didn't have to as it was no longer legally binding, so cancelled.
The age of chivalry in retail is now officially dead ....

the new ripper and what to do

For whatever reason , a serial killer is rearing his ugly head and started killing 'easy' targets .
Presumably , he'll now target others now streetwalkers are staying away or change his area of terror?
Is it not time to stop this slaughter once and for all ?
Legalise prostitution and allow brothels . For those who think this would be LOADS of extra money for organised crime , then make the brothels council run .
For those who baulk at this , then the amount of drop of their council tax , would probabaly silence most of them -- and why shouldnt councils make a profit on some activities ?
For those that say hookers are all drug addicts then this would give local government a chance of monitoring that addiction and treating those that wished treating .
A further system of legalising all drugs [for everyone] would start to obviate that problem also - the extra money coming into the govt coffers could then be used partially [ government 'do' like their cut after all] to provide education into drug addiction is actually like and if done purely factually may start to deter some of those at risk .
Lets have some grown up government and have some democracy- let adults do what they wish , but safely
